The 9AN is about an inch longer and 3 ounces heavier than the 8AX, but is still very comfortable to carry and easy to use. To turn the light on momentarily, all you have to do is press gently on the rubber "button" on the end of the tailcap. Remove the pressure and the light goes off. To turn the light on continuously, simply rotate the tailcap. To switch from the high power beam to the lower power beam, all you have to do is rotate the head.
There are times when you need all the light power you can get, and the 140 lumens for 40 minutes produced by the 9AN's high power lamp provides that kind of light for you. The beam produced by this lamp consists of a flawless tightly-focused central beam combined with a nearly uniform wide-angle surrounding beam.
